Hyperpigmentation is a common, normally harmless complaint in which patches of skin become a darker tone than the surrounding skin. This darkening is caused by a surplus of melanin, a brown pigment that supplies normal skin colour and forms accumulations in the skin.
A frequent form of hyperpigmentation is age or liver spots. These are often caused by sun damage, and the medical term for these irregularities is solar lentigines.
Identifiable by small, darkened patches of skin, they usually develop on the hands, face or other areas that are most often exposed to the sun.

Apart from sun damage, aging, acne scars and hormonal imbalances can also cause hyperpigmentation. Although hyperpigmentation is harmless, most people would prefer their skin was an even tone, and therefore desire to correct it. There are a range of potential treatment methods to try.
Sheridan France can control hyperpigmentation by using various high-quality skin care products and chemical peels which assist to even out the dispersal of melanin cells.
After testing many products over the years, those she has found to be most efficient for the treatment of these pigmentation problems are the Obagi range which includes the Nu Derm range and Obagi peels.
Whether she recommends you use the skin care products only, or in combination with a skin peel, will depend on factors including your skin type, the severity of the problem, your skin’s thickness and your age.
After careful analysis of your skin, Sheridan will advise a custom combination of products to fit your skin’s needs, and possibly also recommend a skin peel to minimise hyperpigmentation and restore a youthful even tone to your skin.
